Track resurfacing

Post  Philthecanon on Wed May 06, 2009 2:16 pm

Gentelman now that the fence has gone up I think that it is time for us boys to get together to get
our track sorted out. I know this wont be a one day excercise but we'll need all the members of DRCCC to get there hands dirty with this project.I here by make a formal suggestion that this issue
be discussed at our next race day so that we can get this project started .DRCCC's track is the pride and joy of our club and i personally think that she should get the attention she deserves.

Re: Track resurfacing

We are relying on someone to help us with it and we are trying to see what his schedule looks like and we will find out from Christo on Sunday. THat is what the guy does but works out of town often. The resurfacing is a major step to take and it has to be done properly. THere is no trial and error, if we messed it up, that is it.
I would like to make a request on members who get to the track early on racedays to help with track prepping. There is a lot that needs to be done on a raceday, blowing the track, fetching water and then putting sugar water down all takes time and manpower. Nothing is hard work but more hands will make the load lighter for us.
Thanks guys and see you Sunday at the races.

What's needed for track surfacing that we do not have, maybe a idea that the smaller items get donated so long and any idea when the surfacing will take place,is it a weekend job or ??, I am clueless this round.

Philly, what happened ,no word was said at raceday, maybe we can just paint it blackboard black and pretend it was surfaced, easier, the track has grip, some cars become airplanes and then when it touch down it goes like a rocket,

I did not have the energy to discuss the re-surfacing today. It seems that Jeff is willing to help and Christo will get us a list of what will be needed so that we can get it. We obviously need to check Jeff's schedule before we jump in. Sam mailed me some dated that would suit the club, Christo will check with Jeff if that will suit him.

The dates we are looking at doing the resurfacing are 27th, 28th June after the 1st season is finished and also 4th, 5th July.

Once the track has been resurfaced and given enough time to cure, the whole track needs to be remeasured into a grid, the layout then needs to be accurately chalk marked, then the lines need to be laid with masking tape according to sarda specs along with the chevrons, if this is not done correctly the first time, we might as well not do the whole exercise in the first place. (When the track was first marked and painted around xmas time, the above process was not done correctly, hence the track looks like a bit of a dogs breakfast, but I do understand that the guys were eager to get racing, but this time round it's for keeps so it needs to be done properly.) Then we must paint all of that, oh yes, and the grid then also needs to be measured, taped off and painted. Once that is done, the pipes/wood needs to relaid, fastened down better than last time and painted.

The point I'm trying to make is that this mammoth task needs to be done proffesionally and meticulous attention to detail paid, no rush jobs like before are going to be acceptable, as alot of everybodies valuable time, effort and club(your) money will be vested into this project, even if it takes a month of Sundays to complete, then so be it. There will be no shortcuts this time. Bear in mind that what will be done needs to last at least 3 - 4 years before the track gets a face lift again.
