Mabuchi / Johnson motors
Came across this info about the silver can motors. Ray, you going to have to watch which ones you buy in as there are differences which are illegal.
The RS-540SH series is the one typically used in RC car kits and this comes in 3 versions, the 5045, 8023 and the 6527. Where the first 2 digits describe the wire diameter: 50 = .50mm etc and the last 2 digits the number or turns: 27 = 27T etc.
You will need to look at the motor label/number to know which you have, the RS-540SH-6527 being the typical one put into the Japanese RTR kits etc....... and is the 27T motor. They do other (and lower wind motors) but these were marketed under the "Dyna" name.
The can finish only desinates the motors original intended market, matt tin plate finish for industrial use (tools etc) and nickel plated for toys, including RC cars.
You won't actually find the RS-540SH-6527 listed in the Mabuchi information though which does make it confusing!

Re: Mabuchi / Johnson motors
the motors we get locally from jeffrey stein are all legal and they have no funny 27turn motors in the kits as yet. The problem however is that we will have to keep our eyes open on what people bring in themselves. THanks for the info, we will just have to be more alert.

Re: Mabuchi / Johnson motors
if you ever need to call in a motor expert im sure i know of a good one
the 27t maybushi is the 4 slot, at the moment you only really get two kinds, you get the standard kit motor that comes with the new tt01 kits, it has a shiny casing and serrated brushes, i find these motors a bit inconsistent with power, then the second type is the normal Johnson you can buy in the box, this has a slightly matt finish, and normall brushes.
but the only one to worry about is the 4 slot, which is 27t
i think as long as we bump up, or suggest to the drivers that when you fast in tt01 stock class then they must move up to club stock, as i did. then it leaves tamiya open for anyone to win, if someone has a fast motor they will only win a season, then has to come play with the big boys
, i have proved a tt01 can be raced competitively in club stock, lets try and keep tamiya competitive for the new guys.

It's like a lucky draw with the johnson's unfortunately. When buying one, try to run it in properly to help the performance a bit.
