1/10 ESC's

Post  vuka on Wed Aug 12, 2009 4:23 pm

What would cause an esc to blow?
Which esc to buy?
Are the risks the same on all and then it would be better to buy the cheapest one?
35, 50 or 120amp
sensored or sensoless??

I always thought if you pay enough, the item will last. I saw at the Welkom nats that they all blow up.
I think we must put up a score board but would like to exclude a certain red 12 turn for now..

daar is n plan. Die engelse se dit mooiste: "something has got to give"

Too many crashes. Evil or Very Mad

I agree they should be able to take some abuse with crashing etc. The problem with thermal cutout is it waits for heat before it cuts. If geared to tall, it takes a huge hammering before the speedo even gets hot and something says cheers. In the other classes the motor blows up or melts like with Ashley the other week. With brushless, it always has torque and you tend to want to gear it up and up.
I suggest in 13.5 on our track, gear at a 40 to 42mm rollout with the turbo function on and timing set to the max. If your driving is not smooth, closer to 40 would be better. That will give you time to check motor temp and compare speed and then gradually gearing up. I ran a 42 rollout last week and my car was crazy fast
