TT-01 Enduro 13/9/2009
Well the enduro was a mix of successes and in the end disappointment!!
Nick and I held a test session on Saturday to determine the best charging rate for the 1800 batteries to run for each 10min stint and the best gear ratio combo.
My team included Nick and Brad in the TT-01 enduro. It was decided that I would do the first stint, Brad the 2nd and Nick the Third.
The start consisted of a running start literally; I was given 2nd start spot to start running to the other side of the track to get the Radio Receiver and then 2 run back to the driving stand. I thought I could outrun Micheal to the drivers stand but that was not the case ha-ha! My heart was pumping when I got the top of the stand and got the car going to hunt down Michael’s car for the lead.
Now as it was my first time I had ever driven around the track the wrong way round, it proved very challenging in the beginning, I experienced one heavy crash which I reckon was the start of the problems to come. I managed to get going again and catch and pass Michael for the lead, I then managed to open up a substantial gap to the rest of the field, might have been 3 laps I think. Nick handled the first pit stop changing it in a very quick time.
Brad took over from me for the 2nd driver’s stint; he continued to open the gap to the rest of the field. We were enjoying a very dominant time but it was not to last. The heavy shunt that happened during my driver’s stint and possibly a combination of other knocks caused a soldering point between the esc and battery to come loose during Brads run. The car stopped dead in the middle of the track. The car spent a good 5min in the pits while Nick was rectifying the problem. Brad continued his stint; we were now 2 or 3 laps behind the leader.
Nick took over from Brad for the 3rd driver’s stint. Nick now driving well and catching the guys in the front, but more bad luck was to come with the car coming to a stop once again. Brad got it back to the pits with nothing visually wrong with the car, we reckoned the esc must have cut-out from excessive heat.
After a while, the car was going once again but we dropped too far back to salvage any chance of a victory, finishing in 4th place.
You need a fast car but you also need a reliable car! It was a true learning experience.
We all had a lot of fun and I wouldnt mind seeing 2 of these enduro's being run every season. Thank you to all that made the enduro possible.

It's not called an enduro for nothing you know!!! Next time we make it 1hr long, 2 drivers, pit as many times as you like, swop drivers as may times as you want. Sounds good!!!

Re: Race day reports
There are some other clubs that run 3hr enduro's with stock TT's, 4 drivers, compulsory 30min pit stop, limited bats, etc, etc.
So ja, it can get very interesting.

now we talking.. but I would like to have a dedicated car for that then. we could even run different classes in the same race.
might need a bigger drivers stand tho.

Re: Race day reports
Yeah the stock motors did better than brushless motors, we were lying Third most of the race after a 5lap late start and then the esc was overheating the last 8 minutes, did 3 pitstops to cool motor and esc and stil ended forth.
Waar was Mr Grootbek S400 met sy brushless flattaps 2 battery setup?????????????????
Maybe he could not see the kerbs running the track in reverse, so muscle memory came into play forcing unforced errors.

That's why he is crying for paint, always something else to blame.
What an event, looking forward to the next one

Re: Race day reports
So, julle kan net brag as julle dit verdien het, go plastic tub chassis' go!!
Maar dit was 'n heel lekker dag, baaie pleseerig. Ons sal 'n langer een reel vir die einde van die jaar se funday.
