DRCCC Race Report - Unofficial Race Day - Season 2

Post  sam the man on Sun Jul 12, 2009 1:28 pm

After a looooong break, and everybodies eagerness to get back on the track, the day finally dawned, although some had already managed a good few sneaky practice laps the day before!!! There were still a few pipes that had to be laid before racing could get underway, and thanks to all those who lent a hand at getting the track prep done.

We originally had over 50 entries loaded for the day, but were only rewarded with 35 drivers entering 47 cars, still an awesome turnout none the less. With everybodies spirits high to feel out this new track, racing got underway with the new staggered starts system, which I think worked well and was enjoyed by most as the racing was alot cleaner which only meant better times.

Qualifying finished as follows:

5. Carl - 10 - 4.18.840 - rd1
6. Robert - 1 - 0.24.860 - rd2

As can be seen from these results, the top few places in each class were only seperated by a few seconds, so the racing was very tight and competitive, this mainly due to the staggered start system with everyone racing against the clock and not each other, which also kept the racing alot cleaner. Also a point to note is that most of the best round times were posted in the second round round, this due to a nice clean racing line being put down, and also putting some rubber onto the surface. I'm sure as time passes it will get better and better.

Finals finished as follows:

1. Bradley G - 11 - 5.07.310 - 26.320 fastest lap - 27.937 ave lap

The racing just seemed to get tighter and tighter at the top as the day wore on, with some really close faught battles for the top few positions. You will see I have added the fastest lap times to the results, this is so that you can check your consistancy levels. The aim is to have your average lap time within 1sec of your fastest lap, if you can get that right, you styling. This is also a means to see how you progress over time from maybe having a 3-5sec gap between the two figures. To refresh your memory on the Bob Stormer consistancy factor, go read http://raymondsrcmodels.forumotion.net/racing-tips-f4/improve-your-lap-times-t8.htm .

All in all it was a good days racing, and it's really nice to have a smooth, high bite, low wear track surface. I'm sure at the next race day we will have a record turnout as word spreads to the guys that weren't there about our excellent new surface. Also it's the first points race day for season two. Once again, thanks to everybody who helped during the resurfacing progress, pipe fitting, etc. If we can all come together to achieve the common goal, we will have one of the best if not the best club in SA in no time at all.

Cheers till next time.

I think this staggered start system is the biz. I really had some good runs in stock with it, can't comment on my ss performance or lack thereof!!

I think so, time is the offending factor though. I must come get some brushes from you.
